Tina
Lundy Melo is an attorney with FizerBeck,
practicing taxation, estate planning, probate,
and general corporate law. Ms. Melo is licensed
to practice law in the state of Texas and
is a member of the Texas State Bar Association
(former Chairman of the Exempt Organizations
Committee of the Tax Section) and the Houston
Bar Association (Tax Section).
During her
more than twenty years of legal practice,
Tina has represented a variety of charitable,
tax-exempt, and governmental organizations,
including many health care clients. She
is a frequent lecturer on topics affecting
such exempt organizations, including the
incorporation process, employee compensation
and fiduciary liability, and has published
an article addressing the tax consequences
of outreach testing by nonprofit, tax-exempt
hospitals. Tina also represents individual
clients in estate planning, with a particular
focus on charitable giving. Tina is active
in various community organizations, and
has served as an officer and director of
Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts,
and as a director of the Junior League of
Houston, Inc. Tina is currently a member
of the Planned Giving Council Advisory Committee
of Rice University, Houston, Texas and the
Planned Giving Council of the University
of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia.
Tina received
her J.D. from the University of Virginia
in 1981, and graduated with high honors
from the University of Tennessee in 1977
with a joint degree in political science
and journalism. Tina practiced with the
Houston law firms of Vinson & Elkins
and Wood, Lucksinger & Epstein prior
to joining FizerBeck in 1991.
